The little-known big problemWhat are MBLs?MBL Patient Profiles
Shining a light on MBL-producing bacteria:
How your patients and hospitals are impacted

MBLs-producing bacteria are on the rise.1 Their epidemiology is global and they are spreading, representing a significant challenge for clinical management and public health.1,2

Find out more by listening to Episode 1 of our podcast:
The Enemy is Closing In: The Changing Epidemiology of MBLs

The impact of delayed, inappropriate treatment of MBL-producing bacteria3-6

Timely, appropriate treatment, based on local epidemiology and risk factors for metallo-β-lactamases (MBL)-producing pathogens is vital to improve patient and healthcare-associated outcomes.3-7

"If you’re dealing with an outbreak… the hospital has big problems."

Dr Beatrice Grabein:Reasons why you should be aware of MBLs
Dr Grabein examines the significant patient burden associated with MBL-producing bacteria.

Find out more by listening to Episode 2 of our podcast:
The Silent Crisis: Unveiling the Global Patient Impact of MBLs

To help you identify these patients earlier, some of the key patient risk factors associated with infections caused by MBL-producing Enterobacterales are highlighted below.

Patient risk factors for infections caused by MBL-producing Enterobacterales are largely the same as risk factors for infections caused by other carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales and include: 8-10

Travel to/from a country endemic to MBL production

Prior exposure to antibiotics

Longer ICU stay

Comorbidities

Important predictors of MBL infections:

Prior use of carbapenems

Presence of indwelling catheter

"It was very complicated to find an optimal or appropriate antibiotic treatment regimen."

Dr Beatrice Grabein: How to manage infections caused by MBL-producing Enterobacterales
Dr Grabein discusses a case study of a patient who had an infection caused by an MBL-producing pathogen. She takes us through the patient risk factors, the diagnosis and detection of an MBL, and the patient outcomes.
